Our next Doc & Talk event, a documentary screening and discussion, is on 23 November at Ciné Le Paris in Bettembourg.
The event is organized in partnership with the Consultative Commission on Integration and the Commission on Social Cohesion of the Commune of Bettembourg.
At this Doc & Talk we will show Seven Winters in Tehran (Sieben Winter in Teheran) – a film by Steffi Niederzoll with Zar Amir Ebrahimi (Holy Spider – Best Actress Cannes 2022, Oscar Shortlist 2023 for Best International Film) as Reyhaneh’s voice. The documentary won the CompassPerspektive-Award at Berlinale earlier this year.
The screening will start at 19:30 h, and the director Steffi Niederzoll will join the discussion after the film through Zoom.
Short synopsis :
Seven Winters in Tehran tells the story of Reyhaneh Jabbari. In July 2007, she had a meeting with a new client. When he attempted to rape her, she stabbed him in self-defense. Later on the same day, she was arrested for murder. The trial led to her death penalty sentence.
Thanks to personal and secretly recorded videos provided by Reyhaneh’s family, their testimonies, the letters written by Reyhaneh in prison and other archives, the film retraces the trial, detention and fate of this woman who became a symbol of resistance in the country and women’s rights even beyond the borders of Iran.
The film will be screened with English subtitles, and the discussion after will be led in English and translated simultaneously in French.
