Meet Apolena Rychlíková whose film explores the life of a migrant worker
After our first two screenings last month, the project “Doc & Talk: Living together” continues on 22 October in Kinoler (Kahler) and 23 October in Ciné Sura (Echternach) with the film “Limits of Europe”. Both events start at 19:30.
The series Doc & Talk: Living Together is realised with the support of the Division for Intercultural Living Together of the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees. Partners of the project are also the communes of Garnich and Bettembourg as well as Ciné le Paris, Kinoler and Ciné Sura.
In “Limits of Europe” a prominent Czech journalist leaves her family and joins “cheap labour force” in Western Europe. Undercover, she works at an asparagus farm in Germany, tries her hand as a maid at a hotel in Ireland and takes care of the elderly in France. She experiences first-hand the struggles of Eastern European low-wage workers.
How do the lives of economic migrants, who have been forced to leave their children and elderly parents, look like? And why do some people, while enjoying their privileges, easily look the other way?
Just like in the other Doc & Talk events, we invite our guests to a discussion after the film. On 22 October in Kahler, director Apolena Rychlíková will join us via Zoom, and on 23 October in Echternach, we will have the honor of e-meeting Katerina Vrbova, editor of the film.
The access to all events from Doc & Talk series: Living Together is free to all people. This activity can be validated as a module of the Biergerpakt. For more information on the Biergerpakt: https://biergerpakt.zesummeliewen.lu/de/.
The aim of our Doc & Talk events will be to search for answers about how to live better together building awareness on topics like different cultures, communities, languages and customs that sometimes can divide people but closer look and deeper understanding lead to more empathy and solidarity. This will be the focus of the initiative.
There will be simultaneous translation of the discussion after “Limits of Europe”, from and to French in Kahler, and German in Echternach. Thanks to this special feature of all Doc & Talk events, everyone will be able to pose their questions in a language that suits them.
We will be waiting for you on 22 and 23 October! Let’s talk!
